Description

After a fresco by Paolo Caliari, known as “il Veronese”, in the Stanza dell’amore coniugale, Villa Barbaro, in Maser (Treviso). Exhibited in the Stuttgart State Gallery in 1958/59, the string tercet was still attributed to Veronese before Rodolfo Pallucchini suggested a Venetian painter of the 17th century, namely Pietro Liberi (1605-1687). Liberi studied under Alessandro Varotari (“il Padovanino”), also from Padua, and was thus a descendant of the great Venetian painting tradition of the Cinquecento.
