- Large-format, elaborate and expressive self-portrait of the great German Expressionist. - In 1989 part of the comprehensive retrospective at the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich, and at the Kunsthalle Bremen. - The artist showcases his great mastery in a work with the characteristic strong contours, the accomplished play of light and shadow and the apt facial features captured with dynamic ease.
The work is documented in the archive of the Karl and Emy Schmidt-Rottluff Foundation, Berlin.
