Lot Details
Chalk drawing. Lower left with the artist's monogram. With the estate stamp (Lugt 1570 b) and the hand-written number "K Dre / Bg 21" on the reverse. On laid paper (with the watermark). 27.5 x 42 cm. , the full sheet. [CH].
- A particularly detailed and intriguing composition that reveals Kirchner's poised draughtsmanship. - An important period in art history: in 1905, Kirchner, Heckel, Schmidt-Rottluff and Bleyl founded the "Brücke", which Pechstein and Nolde also joined in 1906. - Testimony to the extraordinary collaboration between the group of artists: a drawing by Fritz Bleyl showing the model in this very pose can be found in the Brücke Museum in Berlin. - Kirchner and the "Brücke" artists provided a new, pioneering interpretation of the female nude as an independent pictorial element. - Kirchner probably met Dodo, his companion and lover from the Dresden period, as early as 1903 and she may have posed for this drawing.
