- Ritschl is one of the most important representatives of abstract painting in Germany. - He exhibited at documenta 1 in 1955 and at docuementa II in 1959, the same year he was awarded the Art Prize at the Künstlerbund exhibition - In 1955, he had his first major retrospective at the Museum Wiesbaden. - Works by the artist can be found in the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen in Munich and the Sprengel Museum in Hanover.
