Peregrine Honig (b. 1976) Give It Up Honey, 2008 Watercolor and ink on paper 30 x 22 inches (76.2 x 55.9 cm) (sheet) Signed, dated, and titled along lower edge: Give it up Honey Peregrine Honig From the Estate of Marlene Meyerson, Dallas PROVENANCE: Dwight Hackett Projects, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Acquired by the present owner from the above. EXHIBITED: Dwight Hackett Projects, Santa Fe, New Mexico, n.d. Multidisciplinary artist Peregrine Honig addresses pop culture, themes of sexual curiosity, and the beauty found in human awkwardness. Utilizing watercolor, ink, and letterpress typeset, Peregrine Honig's Give It Up Honey transforms a nude female figure, saint-like in appearance, adorned with a halo and a blue mantle, standing awkwardly, gaze averted, and hands rendered behind her back. Loose yet delicate brush strokes blend and overlap to define the figure's body as sharp lines give way to a sculptural cherub-like face. The text across the figure's belly reads ‘GIVE IT UP HONEY,' accompanied by a superimposed handprint, possibly referencing the awkward expectations of supernatural, or holy, birth.
