George Tice (American, 1938-2025) Petit's Mobile Station and Water Tower, Cherry Hill, New Hill, New Jersey, November, 1974 Gelatin silver print, printed 1975 15-1/2 x 19-1/4 inches (39.4 x 48.9 cm) (image/sheet) Signed in pencil, inside mount recto. Signed in pencil, mount recto. Titled and dated in pencil mount verso. George Tice's meticulous habit of noting print dates on his photographs began in 1978. This print, made in 1975, is likely one of the earliest printings of his iconic 1974 image. The verso of this mount bears the title with "Mobile" instead of "Mobil" and also includes "Watertower." It was not until 1976 that Tice was informed of the correct spelling of "Mobil", proving that an early printing of the work. Additionally, this print on Agfa Brovira paper is slightly lighter, titled at the top of the mount's verso, and signed "Geo. A. Tice"—all indicators of an early printing, in contrast to his later renditions, which either lack these details or feature slight variations.
