• In the expressive watercolors of the “Aller Retour” series, Günther Förg takes spontaneous color choices and his bold brushstroke to the extreme.
• Color is celebrated as an autonomous phenomenon and explored in endless variations.
• Förg’s oeuvre combines seemingly contradictory elements: concrete art with gestural freedom, geometric precision with impulsive expression.
• The artist’s works are currently on view at the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen and in a solo exhibition at the Neues Museum in Nuremberg.
The work is registered in the Günther Förg Archive under the number WVF.08.P.0242. We are grateful to Mr. Michael Neff of the Günther Förg Estate for his kind confirmation of this work's authenticity.
LITERATURE: Günther Förg, Rudi Fuchs, Aller - Retour, Cologne 2008, p. 141 (illustrated in color on p. 117).
Private collection, Baden-Württemberg (acquired from the artist). Private collection, Hesse (gifted from the above)
In good condition, with beautiful colors. The paper is slightly wavy due to the manufacturing process, particularly along the outer edges of the image. Overall, there are studio marks, particularly along the outer edges of the image, including fingermarks. There is some slight soiling along the left and top edges of the sheet, though this is likely also due to the manufacturing. There are isolated areas of light rubbing, as well as a vertical, continuous rubbing mark in the center, which are also likely due to the manufacturing.
