The present work is a production cel from the film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's In The Night Kitchen (Weston Woods, 1987) directed by Gene Dietch and narrated by Peter Schickele. Dietch's film animated themes of imagination and self discovery from Sendak's award winning book as main character Mickey stumbles from bed and falls into the baker's cake mistaken as one of the ingredients.
